At least seven students were critically injured in a shooting incident at a suburban Denver school in Colorado, US. While seven are reportedly critical, the shooting incident has left one 18-year-old student dead.

Two suspects were apprehended after the shooting at the STEM School in Highlands Ranch area. Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said at a news conference that the two shooters walked into the school and opened fire on students in at least two classrooms.

The sheriff said a number of students were shot and wounded; all the victims were aged 15 or older.

Spurlock said the gunmen were also students at STEM School Highlands Ranch and that he did not have information on whether there was a specific target or coordinated attack.

The sheriff went on to add that one of the shooters is an adult male while the other is a juvenile.

While a handgun was recovered by the police, no information was released on any other weapons that may have been used.

According to local reports, the suspects walked into the school and engaged with students in two separate locations. An 18-year-old student was killed in the incident.

Officers could hear several gunshots being fired inside the school when they were entering the premises to secure the location. Spurlock said officers deployed to apprehend the shooters struggled to take them into custody initially.

“We do know that we do not have any other suspects. We have all the people involved (in custody),” Spurlock said.

Apart from seizing their weapons, police also found the suspects’ vehicle in the parking lot of the school.

As of now, at least 7 students have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and all of them are believed to be in critical condition.
